About the plans and priorities of the Nizhynsky Cannery – brand manager Tetiana Hrytsyuk
Currently, the Nizhynsky Cannery is among the TOP-5 processors of vegetable raw materials in Ukraine. Despite the war, the company continues to work and delight consumers with delicious products.
The Nizhyn Post journalist asked brand manager Tetiana Hrytsyuk about current work, plans and priorities.
– Mrs. Tetiana, what kind of products does the factory currently produce?
– The Nizhynsky Cannery began its history with salting cucumbers, and currently it is best known as a producer of canned vegetables under the “Nizhyn” trademark. Who does not know about Nizhyn cucumbers?! The plant already has a 95-year history, and a lot has changed during this time.
Today, the company is a leader in the production of not only “Nizhyn” canned vegetables, but also pickles in wholesale and individual packages, designed for the end consumer, under the TM “Greenville”.
The assortment of our pickles is quite wide. These are traditional sauerkraut, cucumbers, tomatoes, as well as Korean salads, laminaria. The newest line of activity is the production of peeled raw and boiled vegetables.
– What are the main factors that ensure the plant’s leadership among vegetable processors?
– Nowadays, it is not easy to work in all areas of business, and especially if it is food production. Everything is important here: raw materials, equipment, personnel, quality and our customers.
The main part of raw materials for processing is obtained from our own farms. Last year, for example, we had big problems with it due to the occupation. So far, they have been almost completely overcome.
As for the quality of raw materials, the factory has strict requirements for it. The quality of raw materials and finished products is controlled by our own certified laboratory.
For the proper storage of raw materials, our enterprise is equipped with a sufficient number of warehouses that allow storing vegetables with the necessary temperature regime, ventilation, etc. Not every enterprise has such provision.
Several separate modern and high-tech lines of equipment are used in the production: canning lines for marinades, for salads, for vegetable pastes. The plant also has lines for salting and packing pickles and salads, lines for cleaning and packing vegetables, and an autoclave for cooking boiled vegetables. All factory equipment was purchased from the best manufacturers in Europe and Ukraine.
Another important component of the coordinated work of any enterprise and its success is its staff. Currently, more than 50 employees with experience at the plant from 10 to 25 years work at the Nizhyn Cannery. Can you imagine what knowledge and experience they have?! We are proud of and thank each of our employees for their contribution to the common cause.

– If we ask Nizhny residents whether they ate vegetables today, we will most likely hear an affirmative answer. Nowadays, more and more people include them in their diet. It seems to be becoming trendy…
– According to the “Recommendations on healthy nutrition for adults” approved by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, fruits and vegetables should make up about half of the daily diet. The recommended consumption of vegetables for an adult healthy person is 400-500 grams.
Our cannery can cover the need for consumption of traditional vegetables in the form of ready-made vegetable preserves, pickles, boiled and, in the future, raw peeled vegetables for further preparation.
There are global world trends that affect the development of the vegetable market in Ukraine: healthy food and a healthy lifestyle in general, an increase in vegetarianism and veganism, an acceleration of the pace of life, i.e. a reduction in the amount of time spent on household chores, a change in consumer tastes and preferences. In addition, the number of working women who do not want and do not know how to preserve, salt, leaven, but are responsible for the healthy nutrition of their family, is growing.
We have been observing these trends for many years, for example, with the appearance and development offer of long-term ready-to-eat meals and cooking departments in grocery chains.
Industries are forced to expand their horizons and create something new and interesting for consumers and businesses. The category of vegetables is no exception.
For more than one year, we have been cooperating with the largest Ukrainian food chains in the direction of boiled and raw peeled vegetables for cooking.
– Are you planning a new offer for consumers in the near future?
– Yes. We are currently planning to launch a line of raw, peeled vegetables under the TM “Greenville” in vacuum packaging up to 500 grams. These will be traditional Ukrainian vegetables, i.e. potatoes, carrots, onions, beets in sliced versions and a set of vegetables for borscht.
Also, in the near future, ready-made Ukrainian borscht and rozsolnyk under the TM “Nizhyn” in glass jars will appear on the shelves of supermarkets. For consumption, everything will be simple: add broth or water, boil – and a delicious first course is ready!
I would also like to remind you about such a product of ours as boiled beetroot TM “Greenville”, which has been on the market of Ukraine for several years, but is relatively new for the consumer.
If possible, I will tell a little more about the technology of cooking boiled vegetables so that consumers will understand.
In fact, they are not boiled in cauldrons and then put in bags, as some imagine. Vegetables are washed and peeled with the help of machines, if necessary they are cleaned by hand. Then they are packed in plastic bags and vacuumed. Then the packages are placed in an autoclave for sterilization. You can say that vegetables are steamed in this way.
With such processing, the benefits of vegetables are preserved to the maximum. Vacuum packaging allows to store the product without the influence of the external environment.
– Summarize the advantages of your products.
– Our products are made from quality Ukrainian raw materials; all products are subjected to laboratory control; the factory uses traditional technologies and recipes.
Consumers save their own time, which can be used with benefit, because we offer a range of ready-to-eat vegetable dishes such as pickling, canned and boiled vegetables, as well as a range of raw peeled and cut vegetables for cooking. Vacuum packaging allows you to store the product for a long time. For example, for boiled vegetables, it is 60 days.
Housewives do not have to bother with peeling vegetables, washing, with dirt and the smell of cooking.
It is possible to make strategic reserves from conservation, because its storage period is 2-3 years, which is extremely important now.
